What is the best video editing software, and EASY TO USE?

I have tried different things a few years ago, and gave up…
I am used to editing the OLD WAY from VHS to VHS, SUPER VHS TO SUPER VHS, 3/4 to 3/4,etc…
I find the new way of editing using software seems so complicated, and ridiculous to figure out.
Is there anyone who can tell me a program which is truly easy to pick up, and master??? and that has some resemblance to th eold way of doing things???? THANX
